Over an 8 month period the car went through a lot of work to make it ready for the trip and suitable for extreme cold weather conditions.The car completed the 6,000 miles expedition without missing a beat but with the trip completed I’m moving onto a new project so it’s up sadly up for sale.Car comes with 12 Months MOT, Tax until the end of 11/12 and has just been serviced (18/05) at a 4x4 specialists. where it had stood for 8 years. It` now undergoing complete restoration. We are listing it now, as we near completion, so that the new owner can decide whether the `scars` from the event on the body work are left or repaired beofre the full body respray.The general condition is excellent with no corrosion to the chassis. Some minor corrosion in the doors and sills has been professionally repaired along with the roof where the roof rack bolts through to the internal roll cage. The biggest area of corrosion was in the rear floor crossmember. This is not part of the chassis, but a box section behind the bumper. Due to mud being left in here when put into storage, the area had corroded from the inside out. This part has been fully replaced and is now in excellent condition.The engine and gearbox are in perfect condition with only 33,000 miles on the clock. The timing belt has been changed and we have fully serviced it with all new oils and filters. The brakes have been rebuilt with new brake lines and new wheel bearings. The chassis will be waxoyled following a new MOT. The interior is in good condition and comes with the genuine seat covers. The winch works well, as do all the electrics. The front bars and roof rack have been removed, blasted and re-painted in satin black. New marine grade ply will be fitted. All the original details are present for the exterior of the vehicle. Bush cables, metal plates, tools and sand ladders. We will be replacing the tyres but will leave the wolf wheels in place. Straight body 123,000 Miles Runs and Drives well MOT until 01/06/12 Tax until 31/05/12 Only 2 previous owners! (Last owner since 1994) This has been my dads Land Rover since 2009 covering 23,000 miles since owning it. V5 is in my dads name He bought it direct off the insurance company as it was stolen recovered, being recovered partially stripped of some of its front end panels including the 2 wings. It is down as a Cat C as obviously it needed replacement parts to get it back on the road. The VIN number on the chassis and the engine number are intact and untampered with but the vin plate on the Pedal box has been ripped off leaving only the centre section of the VIN plate attached by its rivets. While the front wings were off we decided to replace the cambelt so the cambelt has 23,000 miles on it so got plenty of life left in it! At the same time every suspension bush was replaced included the rear a frame ball joint as well as all of the brakes being overhauled. New front brake disks and pads were fitted on the front while the rears had new drums, cylinders and brake liners and every brake line was replaced with the much better copper ones. A full brand new exahsut system was fitted at the same time As you can probably tell my dad is much more interested in the mechanical side of things rather than appearance and has religiously serviced it every 5000 miles since owning it. At these times periods every filter was changed, every oil replaced in the engine, gearbox and both axles. The chassis is absolutely rock solid, when he first got it he gave it all a good clean and waxoiled it and has waxoiled it approximately 4 times since he has owned it to keep it in good shape. It is probably due for a new coat any time soon to keep on top of any surface rust. The bulkhead again is totally solid, it has never been repaired and doesn’t require any work at all. It was originally a truck cab model so while the roof was off, we took advantage of the fact that it was easy enough to remove the windscreen and frame so we were able to get a good layer of paint on the actual top of the bulkhead that sits under the screen. This was rust free like the rest of the bulkhead but it is always good to get any extra paint on anywhere if possible! The front doors are suffering from the usual rusting in the lower sections but nothing that couldn’t be sorted with new repair sections, We are putting in 2 brand new repair channels to make the job easier for you if you plan on repairing them. The skins are very straight as they go, the passenger side has some of the usually bubbling at the bottom. As it was originally a truck cab model it has factory fitted galvanised body cappings and rear light cappings so these are totally solid and also the aluminium on the tub isn’t bubbling like so many others! Other than the passenger side door bottom the bodywork is totally free of the dreaded allumnium corrosion! Even the seatbox ends and the part of the tub they bolt too have survived 22 years unscathed! It also has the crystal wipac headlights fitted too. After looking it over the items that are missing are: Passenger side door card Lower part of the steering column shroud Centre seat or cubbybox The little bit of plastic trim that goes round the recline part of the drivers seat The bodywork is remarkably straight. It has been brush painted back in 2009 but has been done with thin paint so the brush strokes are not that prominent and wouldn’t take long with an air sander to get back to a finish for spraying. This will need some TLC for the next MOT · One or some of the steering joints are worn as the steering becomes more vague at higher speeds not being as tight as others Defenders I have driven. As all of the suspension bushes have been replaced 23,000 miles ago the track rod ends or the drop arm ball joint are the main suspects. · Handbrake cable needs connecting to the transfer box as the transfer box was swapped for a higher ratio Discovery one in about august last year so the fitting is slightly different and something my dad never got round to doing! Other than giving it a good check over, ensuring all of the lights are working, wiper blades etc I cant see anything obvious that it would need to pass the next MOT. The tyres where replaced with a brand new matching set late last year so these are of course still in as new condition. This has been in daily use since 2009, my dad has only recently stopped using it as I bought him an auto Discovery as his legs aren’t too good with the clutch ona Defender. He has only ever used it on the road and never off roaded it which is probably one of the reasons why it is still so solid today. Overall this is a superb base for someone that will not require much work to pass its next MOT and to be put back into regular use again. How many land rovers have a solid bulkhead, good chassis, a superb engine and box and straight bodywork! If this was resprayed and just generally tidied up, this would be going for many thousands of pounds due to the condition of the main parts, so this is an absolute bargain for someone! Now selects hi/lo and diff lock. Common problem if they never see anything other than a grass field.Thats a good indication and the condition underneath shows its just been a car and not a off road wagon. LPG works as it should and i get the equivalent of 30mpg+ if you compare the fuel cost. Its easy to fill up and more garages than you think, she has twin tanks under the sills so no loss of space.Does have a few marks, 2 of the lower door xs stickers have come off (passenger side) and there is a scrape on the bonnet front left approx 4x4 inches, easy fix if you want to.So you have a V8 thats smooth and sounds nice and is better on fuel than the diesel version, Half leather 7 Seater. sold. So, its a 1976 landrover 101 right hand drive that went into service with the british army in 1977. After many repaints of nato camo paint (peeling happily) it was released from military service in 1994. At this point it was registered for civillian use and has had one owner until i bought it last year. The 101 itself is in good running order with the original v8 petrol engine and 4 speed gearbox (92000 KMS on speedo but cable broken) The canvas top is in good condition and has been re waterproofed. The electrical system is 12 volt and has had a modern fuse box installed to eliminate the usual 101 elecrical problems. A new in tank fuel pump was fitted last week. The bodywork is straight and clean with good doors and tops The chassis is solid ( has had a tiny weld repair on back), there is peeling military underseal and slight surface corrosion but no serious rot. This is a genuine sale of a much loved vehicle that is in original "as cast" from military condition. I feel that it is a blank canvas for someone to either cosmetically restore or just lather in waxoyl to protect and enjoy Current MOT till april 2013 and tax till october 2012 so its able to be driven home.
