I'm not sure where you're based but Lincoln is littered with places. From my limited dealings with them so far I can certainly recommend Famous Four in Louth. Take a look at their website at http://www.famousfour.co.uk/ and just follow the link to your particular vehicle. If nothing else it will give you an idea of prices. I'm taking mine to them for an inspection and also to have some rock sliders and recovery points fitted. I might invest in some under body protection for the front as well. Hope that helps. __________________ 7.6L of Landy fun. Bit out of my price range at mo` but does look well made. (As much as you can tell from piccies!). Don`t know about carrying spare can of LPG tho! I keep toying with idea of ski bolted to chassis under engine bay to extend just beyond original bumper. Would decrease approach angle a little, but if demountable, could be removed for on road use. Fixed steel bumpers would defeat use of crash cans wouldn`t they, and SRS would be less effective, I think. Any comments? #8 12th-June-2010, 15:52 996TURBO Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Paris, FRANCE Posts: 188 Re: under body protection Bates' setup is really good but not for Europe and i find that kills the classy look of the rangie. I'm looking at making discrete accessories that will look ok from MOT or safety point of view. __________________ Range Rover P38 4,6 HSE 1997, LPG, Arnott Gen3 & Bilstein Underbody Protection by www.RR-EVOLUTION.com #9 12th-June-2010, 16:25 gtland Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Normandy Posts: 386 Re: under body protection That sounds like an agreement ! Can`t believe it on this site! That`s why I was imagining an easily detachable system that retains (under protection) the original bumper. My idea would though involve a lot of heavy metal work to provide a rigid & strong link from in front of the bumper to a point behind the crash cans. Maybe too much to ask? Maybe have to settle for removing standard bumper for offroad & replace for MOT? It`s extra work but simplifies design. And for us it`s only once in 2 years. #10 12th-June-2010, 16:49 996TURBO Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Paris, FRANCE Posts: 188 Re: under body protection Always good to know Customers requirements. HomePage About Us Services Prices Photo Gallery Links Contact Us Garage Services Underbodyprotection provide a Thorough & Comprehensive Service. We follow a Simple Three Step Process Step One: Vehicle pre-preparation We require your vehicle for a minimum of two days - essentially, this will depend on the amount of pre-preparation work your vehicle requires, eg. mud removal andrust prevention. We raise the vehicle on a ramp and steam clean the whole under body thoroughly. Certain vehicles have poor access (in particular Land Rover chassis) and may require minimal chassis drilling in order to access all parts of the vehicle underside. This is all part of the comprehensive service and Undersealing process we provide and will be agreed with you prior to commencement. Step Two: Undersealing Once the pre-preparation ( rust prevention and mud removal ) has been completed and dried, we use a choice of the either Waxoyl or Dinitrol underseal to provide the best protection available. This is applied to all areas of the underside, in every nook and cranny so that everything is given the lasting protection it deserves. We also pay particular attention to covering all the essential moving parts, eg. Brake discs. Step Three: Quality control Before vehicles are handed back to our customers, we allow the vehicle to dry and give it a good final clean and underbody check to ensure that future rust prevention issues are satisfactory and that the coatings (undersealing) have taken and are doing their job. If you go off road regularly you wish to protect your vehicle with what amounts to armour for the underside! The first priority should be the exposed steering arms, which can be protected with a bolt on steering guard, usually fabricated from steel or alloy. Differentials and the fuel tank can be protected in the same way and some off road owners like to fit rock sliders which protect the sills. Here is some of the protection fitted to my Land Rover 110: As you can see, the sills are solid along their entire length. They fit direct to the chassis and are strong enough to take the full weight of the vehicle. I can rub them across the ground on humps with no damage and they are handy to high lift jack on. The large Salisbury rear differential guard also acts as a rock slider. The diff will slide over any rocks or tree stumps that it hits, and protects the whole diff/pinion area from damage. The fuel tank guard protects the fuel tank from being punctured by rocks. This is especially true when starting to ascend a steep hill, when the rear of the vehicle dips as the front wheels begin to move up the slope. I can testify to the usefulness of underbody protection. It has saved my vehicle from damage on many occasions, from hitting a rock with the steering guard, to smacking a tree stump with the diff guards. Under body protection isn't expensive (around £50 for a diff guard) and it will repay you many times over when off roading. Enjoy this post?
