so it`s time to sell. I`ve used it to carry cast iron radiators, rubble, scaffold, furniture, bricks and trees - the suspension seems able to take any weight you could put the back. I`ve even been to a couple of festivals in it and camped in the back, but recently just been using it to drive 2 miles to the train station. This is a real head-turner, and gets loads of attention wherever it goes - especially with the roof off! It`s a great work horse for doing up a house, or you use it for going exploring / biking / kayaking / surfing / fishing at weekends, or even run your own safaris! There are 3 seats in the front, and 3 benches in the back running along the sides with room for 6 or more people (no seat belts in the back though so they`ll need to hold on). It is ex-military, so has heavy duty rear axle. It also has a tow bar fitted and I converted it to standard 7-pin electrics so you can tow a trailer too - light board can be shown working. There`s also a 2-prong socket on the dash for running electrics off (can also be shown working). It has been resprayed a metallic Range Rover blue (I think). The bonnet has got rust on the underside, but I`ve got a good spare that I`ll throw in with the sale, as well as some other spares and service parts. I have replaced the fuel tank, manifold gasket, float needle, some of the sidelights, gaiters, front shocks, rear shock bushes, engine and transmission oils. The battery is also new, but if it goes flat you can start the engine with the starter handle! I`ve given the carb a good clean too. I think it`s in pretty good condition. Of course it leaks some oil and there is a puff of smoke on fire up - 5 litres of spare oil and new sump gasket included in sale! The chassis has had some welding but is solid. The brakes work. The lights all work. The gears work. The steering works. Everything works... However as it is 28 years old, there are no guarantees and it will be `sold as seen`. Drives well - for a Landy! Starts first time. Any test or inspection welcome - in North Shropshire. Advertised locally so reserve right to withdraw from e-bay at any time. The road tax is free. | I bought the Landy nearly 3 years ago and have used it in the restoration of our house to pick up DIY stuff from B&Q and tow rubbish to the tip. We`re now finished and no longer need the Landy. | It has never been restored but has been patched up along the way. The chassis has been welded in places but it is sound and has been painted to protect. The A posts have been repaired and painted but haven`t deteriorated whilst I`ve had it. The rest of the bodywork looks smart from a distance but has the usual dings associated with a near 50 year old Landy. | It sits on wide radial tyres of 205/16 which make for a more comfy ride. It`s also got overdrive which is much better if you`re on faster roads. It`s a bit whiney but I`m told the`re all like that! It`s also got a stereo and a new towbar fitted | The Landy 2.25l petrol engine starts really easy from cold - even when it went down to minus 9. It was a god send during the winter! There are no nasty noises and it`s very smooth. It pulls well and doesn`t use much oil. It does puff a bit of smoke on start up. It does run a bit lumpy after about 40 minutes continuous running, particularly in the summer. My mate tells me it`s probably the coil that needs replacing. It starts and runs again fine after 40-50 minutes. Everything works as it should apart from the passenger side wiper motor that has power to it but struggles to work (not needed for MOT) . I think it needs stripping and cleaning. | Insurance is very cheap at under £100. | As the Landy is 48 years old it comes with no warranty as is sold as seen. I`ve tried to describe it the best I can but would highly recommend that you come and view in Poole, Dorset. factory in Jerez, Spain in civilian lightweight trim. Brimming with features not seen on UK Land Rovers and reputedly built to a higher standard, this is a possibly a unique opportunity to acquire the perfect European-spec British icon. Production of Land Rovers commenced at the Santana factory in the Andalucía region of Southern Spain in 1958 with kits being sent out from Solihull in CKD (Complete Knocked Down) form. From 1962, the company starting promoting it`s own kits to South American and African markets as well as promoting the Santana brand through these regions. Many of these vehicles ended up in harsh working environments with customer feedback often going back to Santana rather than Land Rover direct owing to the tight financial position of British Leyland at that time. As such, Santana were able to respond accordingly and engineer it’s own solutions to common problems meaning that the product was being constantly developed. By the late 1960`s it was developing it’s own versions and by 1983 (the last year of this co-venture), the vehicles coming out of Santana were deemed better built, better developed and often featured anatomical seats, disc brakes, parabolic springs and turbo diesel engines. Our Ligero (Lightweight) was built in 1983 as an 88” SWB 7-seater diesel. It was supplied new to the Spanish Forestry Commission and remained with them for around 20 years before being shipped to the UK about 7 years ago. Since importation, it has been stored in an underground car-park in London and first saw the light of day just 3 weeks ago. It is amazingly original with possible the cleanest chassis and bulkhead I have ever seen on an unrestored vehicle. The mileage of just 77,000 kilometres (48,000 miles) is believed genuine. We have undertaken a full re-commissioning programme and the vehicle has been fully serviced prior to sale. version, with all the Military stuff like twin underseat tanks, which was a GS (General Service) model using 12v not the more common 24v FFR. This makes life a lot easier..It shows 77565 on the clock, which as the clock is kmh on the outer (and mph on the inner) I`d guess that is kms not miles, therefore that`s 51710 miles.The previous owner fitted new ignition leads, cap, points, condenser, plugs, alternator and starter motor.I had a passenger side footwell and the driver`s side rear spring front mount outrigger welded in as seen in the pics. The only other work I had to do was fully rebuild the Weber carb, fit a new windscreen washer pump, then adjust the handbrake and headlamp alignment for the MOT. The tester said it was one of the best he`d ever seen and that someone had spent a lot of money on this one...Hopefully the pics reflect this and as you can see, there are very few dents and dings- unlike all the others I saw before buying this one. Also the usual dodgy chassis parts are solid as are the bulkhead corners. The only bit of rust that I can really see is where someone has welded on a new door stop bracket as seen in the pics and not painted it in properly. No doubt a dead easy clean up job. There`s even a small pot of NATO green included- I just really don`t have the time as I am moving house as we speak. The doors are also rust free. This car is genuinely pretty solid, and that`s in the real sense- not the usual delusional Landy owner sense. Believe me, I saw some real dogs that should not be allowed on the road before I bought this one, and no doubt so have you. I`ll be honest and say that the springs are a little hard, but so are all Series and no doubt oiling them up will help. The transmission is noisy as are all Series due to no sound insulation, but it leaks bugger all oil and works very well, the steering works with no play (yes really..), the brakes work (even did an emergency stop on the way to the MOT), and the engine starts well and is very smooth, 4 matching 750x16 AT tyres with good tread. What more can you ask? This is an old motor but good for one of these. The Military fire extinguisher older was removed for footwell fitting, but is included. Someone has fitted rear bench seats in the back and the front seats are fine but need the backrest covers re-stapling along the top. The radiator could benefit from a recore or replacement, though it hasn`t over heated. The water near it in the engine bay pic is from topping up a little after being sat for ages.All of this is my opinion so why not come along and see for yourself? The vehicle had a brand new MOT 10th May 2012 but is not taxed, though it is insured. This is a good Series 3 and I reckon it`s worth the money good ones go for, though it is in no way concourse. It is solid though and would make a great `user`. The vehicle is advertised on my driveway so I might have to end early if someone comes along and pays the screen price. The chassis is in good condition, it drives well and has little to no play in the steering and will happily sit at 45 - 50 mph with the overdrive in. It is finished in green over white, typical series 3 interior, but fitted with 3 cloth county seats, new rubber mats and an additional amp meter. I have recently fitted the following: x4 fully reconditioned injectors, New water pump New rear brake shoes New rear brake flexy New nearside rear shock absorber New heater matrix x4 new mud terrain tyres x2 new wiper blades New rad muff (a must in winter) New transmission tunnel soundproofing New floor mats plus fully serviced (oil and filter / Tappets / fuel filter/ cleaned out air box with new oil / both gear box oils and diff oils / oiled up the leaf springs). The engine will start fine from cold with 30 seconds of heat, and does the typical morning smoke but clears to near nothing once hot, never let me down through out winter. The gears all work fine and does not jump out of any cog / transfare box works as it should and served me well through the snow. Also the overdrive engages and disengages as it should and produces the typical whine that they do, but worth it for the extra 5 mph cruising speed. Bits to be awear of: The window runners have seen better days as has the back door(due to the spare wheel but have a very good replacement door at extra cost if you want it) yes it does drip oil, yes it does smoke, it does leak when it rains hard, it is slow, draughty and noisy. had it for 5 years as a work horse. It is fitted with an Overdrive and has free wheel hubs and I have not used it as an off roader.A new clutch was fitted in 2010. It had a new quarter chassis welded on at rear (2011) and new dumb iron fronts, with a new fuel tank and sensor and new door bottom on driver`s side. Metal plates have been welded into the lower part of the bulkhead on both sides, below the bottom door hinges. It has a dog guard and cubby box, with non Series seats in front. There is a new tub floor in the rear. A new battery was fitted this year because the old one was worn out. It is hand painted very basically in green and cream. It has inertia seat belts in the front and black chequer plate wing tops. It has large mud tyres on after market steel rims. There are black door trims on each lower door. It has a tow fitted but I haven`t put the electrics back in. I`ve renewed all 4 shocks (oil filled) over the past 2 years.It starts ok, and runs well at a top speed of 50-55 mph. It wouldn`t be a 40 year old Landy if there weren`t things that don`t work. The cab heater doesn`t function. The engine thermostat needs replacing - the engine temp gauge on the dash goes into red soon after starting and stays there for the rest of the journey, whether it`s half an hour or a two hour trip. The top of the driver`s door doesn`t close flush. Both bulkhead sides have bodged filler jobs above the top door hinges. Both footwells let water in in wet weather. oh except for needing a new indicator bulb! I have driven up and down to Morecambe on several occasions and over to Scarborough and have used it for the 20 mile commute daily and all family requirements with no issues. I am now selling as my Morris Minor is finally finished and I do not require two cars.I purchased it off the nicest man you could meet who had owned it for 21 years and had used it every day for that whole period. He had loved the Landy from the moment he bought it and had spared no expense in maintaining it, ensuring it never let him and his family down. Indeed evidence of this can ben seen in the fact that it has NEVER had any MOT advisories since new nor, obviously, failed one.Mechanicals: as just mentioned, it has been well looked after all its life, and it shows. The original 2.3 diesel engine was rebuilt 2 years ago, and it also has a rebuilt series 2 gearbox fitted - both the engine and gearbox are faultless. A professionally reconditioned diesel pump was also fitted in the last 12 months. In all other respects the car is mechanically great, with breaks that would put new cars to shame! All other mechanical parts are very good - with tyres under two years old.Structure: the chassis is galvanised, and thus obviosuly no rot! Everything else is also in excellent condition with no work required, all common corrosian areas are corrosion free, like the bulkhead and a posts etc. Inside the original layout was altered - there are now 6 forward facing seats all with seatbelts, extra protection has been added with a built in roll cage. So, no problem now carrying children in the back! Some of the seats were also changed in the last 12 months, including a brand new driver`s and main passenger seat. Electrics: All electric are great, plus there is the added bonus of a rear internal spotlight and a radio / cassette system.SoundProofing: the previous owner sound proofed the vehicle, and it is actually possible to listen to the radio at 50 miles an hour!!!Bodywork: there are no big bumps, dents, or scratches - all panels are straight. The paintwork is presentable but not perfect.All in all then an extrmemly good buy, this will pass its mot no problem again latter in the year and will provide somebody with a fine everyday vehicle or workhorse / toy. hope that someone will rescue it.What is interesting about it? Firstly, it is a genuine factory-built 7 seat station wagon, chassis number 921xxxxx - not a converted van. This is one of the rarest of the Series 3 variants, outsold around 20 to 1 by the standard commercial bodied vehicles. Although very rough it is largely original and has not been messed about, retaining all the specific Station Wagon features.Secondly, I reckon it is an ex GPO (Post Office Telephones) vehicle. I don`t have any history for the vehicle, or any definite proof of its origins, so I am not 100% guaranteeing this, but here`s why I think it started life with the GPO. Firstly, it left the factory painted yellow, no question. That means it was a special order vehicle for a fleet customer - yellow was not one of the colour options for a Series 3 in 1974. The only big buyers of yellow Landies that I can think of from that era were the GPO and the AA. Secondly it has a factory-type hand throttle, and threaded inserts in the front crossmember, which point to it having been fitted with a winch at some time. The GPO ran a fair few 7 seat Station Wagons in the Sixties and Seventies, and all the ones I have seen photos of had either a capstan winch or a drum winch on the front. AA vehicles tended to be plain hard tops - I haven`t seen a photo of an AA Station Wagon. So the evidence seems to point to the GPO as the first owner. There are people out there who know a lot more about GPO Land Rovers than me, so I`m happy to be corrected if the above is wrong. Specification also includes a reinforced front axle (which I have only seen previously on military vehicles).Is it saveable? Yes, but it is going to be a major project, not something you can knock off in a couple of weekends. Bad points first:Chassis is not good. Extensive corrosion along the bottom face, rear crossmember and spring hangers are like Nottingham lace, and some horrible shoddy patch repairs. Chassis sides and top actually appear mostly sound, and I would say the chassis is savable if you can weld to a good standard and have plenty of time. A new galvanised chassis would probably make more sense though.Bulkhead is worse than the chassis. Offside door pillar and top corner are especially bad. Repairable in the sense that anything is repairable if you have enough time and patience, but I reckon it is too far gone to be worth the trouble. I have a better (though not perfect) bulkhead of the correct pattern on Ebay at the moment.Doors are rotten.Front wings dented, especially the nearside which will definitely need a new outer skin. Rot in bottom of radiator panel. Bonnet is dented and the frame totally rotten.Tyres are scrap.Battery shown in engine bay photo is my workshop jump start battery and is NOT included with the vehicle.Now the good points:As mentioned above, largely original, complete and not messed about with.Key Station Wagon features are present - double skinned roof, individual rear seats (which are in surprisingly good nick), Station Wagon badge on rear panel. Roof headlining is intact apart from one small tear close to the edge. Roof vents have surface rust on surrounds but are not rusted solid. Sliding side windows will need new channels but still have the hard to find window locks.Rear body tub is much straighter than they usually are and crucially does not appear to have any plastic filler in it - you can still see all the spot welds. This is important as 88 inch rear tubs in good order are very very hard to find now.It runs! I cleaned out the fuel lines, pump and filter, dunked the pick-up pipe in a gallon can of petrol, and after some fiddling about she fired up and settled down to a nice smooth idle with no smoke. Amazing considering this vehicle has been standing out of use for around 15 years. The water pump rattles and will need replacing but apart from that I reckon the engine just needs a good external clean.Gearbox appears OK, selects all gears and doesn`t make any odd noises with the engine running. I haven`t been able to test it properly as the brakes are seized and the clutch pedal goes straight to the floor.Axles look fine with no major casing corrosion. Chrome swivels are surprisingly good and should just need new seals. The vehicle rolls easily and will winch onto a trailer.I have available by negotiation various parts which would assist in the restoration of this vehicle - wings, doors, bonnet, bulkhead, maybe a better seatbox and probably some other bits. will take equally good care of her. She has been rebuilt down the last nut and bolt and no expense has been spared. Whilst she does not have a galvanised chassis the original frame has been acid dipped and coated with rust inhibitor whilst a triple top coat of sacrificial magnesium flake paint has been applied and according to the tin is the equivalent to galvanised steel. Whilst the chassis has also been annually waxoiled internally as a result there are no signs of corrosion. Her fuel tank has also been internally coated with a flexible tank sealer. | All seals the have been replaced on the running gear and new diffs have been fitted front and back, whilst also the front swivels assembly, braking components, steering relay and steering box and column have been replaced. With new left springs, shock absorbers and suspension bushes (now polybushes) have also been fitted. In addition heavy duty steering arms, track rod ends and steering damper; whilst the brakes have been upgraded to be servo assisted with the potential for twin leading shoes on the front axle to be fitted. There is also a stainless steel back box fitted. | She is running on Cooper Discoverer S/T 235/70 R16 tyres which have plenty of tread left which offer the best off and on road ability I have ever witnessed. Whilst also fitted with free wheeling hubs. She has four headlamps on the front which work in pairs and both have dipped and main beam control ideal for driving in the fog. Whilst also having a brand new alternator fitted last November whilst the injector pump has bee retuned and serviced and the cam belt, tensioners etc have been replaced in the last 6,000 miles. | She is fitted with a 200‘tdi’ engine (although the turbo has been removed to increase MPG) this may seem a bit like a breast reduction but she still has plenty of power and accelerates quickly. She starts first time every time and gives 38.5 MPG if driven correctly, with no smoke. Although she is still fitted with a series 3 gearbox and needs to be upgraded (as the current box crunches on changing down to 3rd if not driven correctly) whilst the addition of a 5th gear would allow her to benefit from better fuel efficiency and a higher top speed. (I do have a gearbox on site but due to lack of time with moving etc I haven’t fitted it yet but if it is required I can include it for an extra £100, it’s fully reconditioned with no crunching and gears select smoothly). | The downside to this vehicle is I haven’t quite finished the interior to my disappointment, although door cards are fitted and the roof is lined out, there are also four point racing harnesses fitted in the front and additional cab heater. Despite all this the incomplete custom dashboard is the let down and either needs completing or changing back to original (current dash mounted to a series 3 bulkhead), all mounting points for old dash are still there and dashboards themselves can be picked up cheaply, so please don’t be discouraged to bid. Also there are also some scratches to vehicles body work although easily solvable and id like to think just adds character to a vehicle of her age and heritage. | She conforms to the point system for tax exemption, and has over the required 8, as she still has her original chassis, axles and transmission | Bonuses… | I also have a set of 5 (possibly) wolf rims although they do need powder coating, two gallons of unopened ep90 gear oil and the odd spare part that I will throw in for the lucky winner. As there is no real point me keeping them anymore. | Viewing is possible although tyre kickers aren’t appreciated as I don’t have much spare time and at the end of the day she is in amazing nick for her age. My understanding is that these were fitted to South African Forward Controle`s; usefull feature if you like lamping or just the wind in your face. Got the safari roof too. Salisbury rear axle. The driver side wing mirror is off a defender and is a huge improvement over the original, I have a new near side unit I always ment to get round to fitting to the hinge - I`ll include this in the sale too.Few questions been asked. Engine had, if I remember, 127k on it when I bought it. Was given a good going over by the engineer who fitted it and a new timimng belt at that point. Get about 35mpg out of it.No real idea of a buy it now price but have spoken to people with an understanding of the work and expence that has gone in to this.
