 | Land Rover 88. off roader. .Reluctant sale. No time to finish the project. approx 1957/59 series Land Rover 88inch. It is complete with axles and working brakes with braided hoses....>
The body work is a bit battered around but serviceable for an off roader. The roll cage is loosely mounted for a trial fit.The front wings and bonnet have been fixed together to form a flip front to give good access. There is no engine or gear box fitted but it looks like it has V8 mountings welded on. The doors and tail gate are usable. The rear tub has been removed and is loosely bolted back on. The chassis has been painted and is in excellent over all shape, it will only require a couple of small welding patches. The front out riggers are the latter type straight items not curved as on originals. The bulk head has been plated but is serviceable. The seat box again is old but serviceable. Tyres are old but decent nick again if only for off road use. There is a small petrol tank and battery box fitted in to the rear tub. Some wiring is in place but not sure if its any good, there is all so a radiator in place but again not sure if it is water tight. There are no chassis numbers or reg documents with this Land Rover but will provide a full written receipt if required.Viewing available at reasonable times by arrangement. Item is located in Doncaster but not at my home. I could possibly deliver item within 100 miles of Doncaster dependant on an agreed sum and my work commitments. course tax free and has a healthy mot till end of June.Only had one advisory on last mot which has recently been completed so the lucky owner will be able to rest assured no big bills!This beauty has also this week had a brand new paint job inside and out in top quality nato green having all dents taken out so now as you can see in the pictures it is as straight as you get!Bulkhead is perfect as is all the usual black spots and has just got a full set of new seats.Also seat belts are installed for your safety. The engine is a very sweet 2.25 diesel which always starts with ease(New battery helps) and runs without fault and pulls away unusually well.Genuine parts have been used for many components.It also drops no oil and is remarkably clean. It drives as it should with a smooth gear change with no jumping out or crunching.Underneath is also a credit to its owners but this is to be expected as all running gear was renewed when it recieved a new chassis a few years ago.It has only been used for the odd weekend and sat the rest of the time in a cosy garage and it really shows! As you can see it has munroe shocks all round and front ball joints look new and unpitted.Tyres are only 2 months old and only covered a few miles.Spare is also new.It has free wheeling hubs and 4 wheel drive operates without fault as does all electrics. as had all new out riggers, new front dumb irons, 1/4 chassis with cross member, so the chassis has no patches and is a very straight and strong chassis which will last for years u are welcom to come and tap away at the chassis. Bulk head has had new floor pans, both top corner panel and is good all round, back tub has had the three under cross member replaced ,all body panels are straight, new spring, fuel tank (galvinised), front bumper and doors,Deluxe exmoor seat and door tops were replaced with new in 2006 , pulled out the smokey old 2 1/4 diesel engine and fitted disco 300 Tdi engine from a friends known vehicle, this engine has held it water and oil all the years i have used it, good strong engine never let me down and i have covered 13345 mile in the landy. Brake are very good with servo fitted and i fitted a dual circiut system when chassis was rebuilt. Two new A T high grip steel radial fitted to frot axle three weeks ago and back axle has A T high grip steel radials that have covered 5000 mile and have got about 9mm of tread so tyres have lots of life left. not showing spare but will come with one plus proper landy jack and handle. gearbox strong no jumping out of gear going down hill on over run slight syncro noisey if u rush 3rd to 4th. M O T S there has been on adviseris and has past first time every time, taxed and tested to 14/09 2012 and the tax is free, insurance with said engine is only £127 a year with f j. The pictures say it all really, everyone says how tidy she is, inside and out, I believe she has a military engine and also an oil cooler, im not sure if she was ex military or not but i think the dash is a military dash??? She starts everytime, even in the coldest weather, battery is affected by the cold but she alway goes. I could go on all day really, someone will fall in love with her like i did. Comes with a spare wheel and tyre, normally on the bonnet where it looks best but not on in the pictures. there is a slight grazing on the front drives side wing as you can see it the pictures She does blow some oil from breather but ive been told this could be valve or tappet adjustment, would do it but i havent got the time and she starts and drives fine!!!like it i just keep her topped up. Cluth and brakes very good, hand brake very good too. I was owned by a mechanic before me and he went through all the brakes, replaced the steering idler and sorted the hand brake amongst alot of other things. I have MOT`s back to 1995 which is nice, V5 is in my name! Engineering, Wallingford, Oxon in 2005, hence plenty of power.Used as a third car (for winter weather/general run around as when it snows we get stuck as about a mile from main road via a track shared with a farm)! Reason for selling, new 4x4 means its no longer required.Odometer was 74, 000 miles when V8 was installed and is now just over 80,000 miles. for an extra £50)This is the classic go anywhere vehicle. gave it a run today after two months sat idle and it started on the third turn, its a nice looking landy.for those who have never driven a series 3 don`t expect new car style ride, this is a utility vehicle excellent for its job, but lacks modern frills, for air conditioning slide the windows open,no power steering but I have replaced the little steering wheel in the pics with a normal larger series 3 wheel (you are welcome to the old one if you have muscles big enough to use it) Tax runs out this month, will negotiate if I have to put some more on it - (wont sorn the vehicle), small problem with speedo, worked fine on first half of run today but stopped on way home, I think its probably just come loose at one end as it was waggling about a bit last time I drove her, will try to look at it but should be fairly easy fix if i don`t have time.2 Haynes manuals and the handbook also with the car.Viewings welcome as are test drives if you are insured (I will need proof)Its a nice car and great fun, just don`t have time to use it. SINCE IT LEFT THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE, THE LAST ONE SINCE 2006. WHEN HE AQUIRED THE LAND ROVER IT WAS FITTED WITH A NEW 4 CYLINDER 2250 c.c. PETROL ENGINE - A REPLACEMENT FOR THE WORN EXISTING UNIT, THE RADIATOR WAS REBUILT AT THE SAME TIME - WE HAVE A COPY OF THE INVOICE FOR OVER £2100.00. SINCE THEN THE LAND ROVER HAS ONLY DONE 14,800 KILOMETRES = UNDER 9,000 MILES ( THE SPEEDO RECORDS IN KILOMETRES AND WAS ZEROED WHEN THE NEW ENGINE WAS FITTED ). WE ALSO HAVE INVOICES FOR 4 x NEW BRAKE WHEEL CYLINDERS AND 2 X 12V BATTERYS AND AN ISOLATION SWITCH IN JULY 2010. THEN IN DECEMBER 2010 IT HAD A NEW CLUTCH AND HYDRAULICS. THE CHASSIS WAS CLEANED AND THEN WAXOILED IN AUGUST 2011. A NEW PETROL PUMP HAS JUST BEEN FITTED. IT WAS M.O.T. TESTED IN JULY 2011 AT 14,706 KILOMETRES - THE PRESENT READING IS 14,782 KILOMETRES - ONLY 76 KILOMETRES COVERED SINCE JULY. THESE INVOICES TO DATE ADD UP TO MORE THAN £4000.00. IN ADDITION IT HAD A MATCHING SET OF NEW OFF ROAD TYRES AND A RESPRAY - THEN ADD TO THIS THE COST OF THE VEHICLE AND YOU`LL GET AN IDEA OF WHAT THE LAST OWNER HAD SPENT.
