300tdi engines which are completely bullet proof. In 1998 they started fitting the td5 engine which in my opinion is not as good. She starts first time every time and even when I have left her a few months unused she starts without trouble (few extra turns to get some fuel in but thats it). I searched around quite some time when I came to buy her having owned defenders before and spending half my time repairing them. I got her from a dealer and she had just been undersealed fully, had the rear ply lined and they replaced the rear A frame balljoint for me. I was doing major DIY to the house and garden and she has been used mainly for trips to the tip and picking up wood from parents in Dorset. She has not needed any work done on her since I bought her and has sailed through every MOT without any advisory notice issued. extremely keen Land rover enthusiast, made a no expense spared nut and bolt restoration of the vehicle. This included all the mechanics ( where needed) body work and chassis. I have included a photo of the chassis off the vehicle to show the standard of work ( this has come out rather small so I can email it to you if needed), I also have all the receipts in a file. A very genuine vehicle. I have owned a few of these and I would challenge you to find a better one.It drives very nicely, steering is tight, gears are easy to select and the car will travel at 50mph on the road ( plenty fast enough for series 1) with ease. As soon as you get in the vehicle it brings a smile to your face and a great deal of adoration from other road users. The engine is a 2.25litre petrol unit, which is a very common replacement for the original 2.0litre. It feels very strong, starts on the first turn and does not smoke or use water or oil. I know it is hard to believe but the vehicle does not drop any oil on the floor. The brakes work well and the gears are easy to select, as is usual with series 1 1st is slightly noisier but all the other gears are great. I believe it may have series 2 hubs which although are not original are an improvement and do not appear out of place. As you can see from the photo`s the paintwork is very good and it has been professionally resprayed in Landrover green. There have been weld repairs to the chasis and bulkhead and the latter has been treated and is as solid as a rock I have photo graphs to show this work. The tread on all the tyres including the spare are like new. It has a new canvass and new seats inside, the inside is very tidy , please see the photographs.Every thing works and it drives very nicely. The car has 4 months MOT and is tax exempt. I would be very confident that it will sail through it`s next MOT I have Old MOT`s going back to 1990`s plus all the receipts and details in a file- see photo I tend to buy a vehicle at the start of the summer to drive through the summer. Unfortunately I cannot afford to keep the vehicle and will not have space in the garage in the winter so reluctantly I am going to sell it. I would like to point out for the purists that although the majority of the vehilce is original it is not tiotally original , ie the engine and running gear have been upgraded- although in my opinion only adds to the experience nad everyday useability of the car. These vehicles have realy started to appreciate in value- I recently watched a series 1 make £14,000 at an auction. Values are only likely to go up and there are few decent ones around As with all items of this value I strongly recommmend that you come and view the Land rover, I am happy for you to do so and to drive it- any trial. 1 - THE BONNET IS ACTUALLY OPEN - THIS IS NOT THE PANEL GAP WHEN IT IS CLOSED! (YES YOU WOULD THINK THIS WAS FAIRLY SELF-EVIDENT BUT NO... ANYWAY) This listing is for a very early 2 door on a Solihull works registration WXC 975K - one of the first thirty or so RHD export cars built. It is believed to have been briefly used as a management assessment vehicle (on trade plates) before being registered by the factory in November 1971 for it`s first private owner. I appear to have every scrap of paper relating to the vehicle from when it was first sold. The ring binder is about three inches thick. Starting with a letter from the Rover Co regarding personal export (Nov 1971), the full "ROVER PASSPORT TO SERVICE", customs docs when it was re-imported to the UK in 1976 and subsequent invoices for thousands spent, mainly with Brownchurch between 1979 and 1995. Subsequent to that, there are lots of invoices from Rimmer Bros etc including £1000 spent on an engine rebuild a few years ago. Recent History: I originally sold this car in September 2008 to a well - known enthusiast in Norway. The vehicle was collected a couple of months later but never made it to Norway. It had been in storage at Blythe, with a number of other classic landrovers purchased by the same enthusiast and contact had been lost. In the meantime a very large storage bill was being built up and the vehicles stored were being threatened with disposal / scrappage. I contacted the original purchaser, but did not receive a reply and then re-purchased it back from the purchasers agent with view to restoring it. Due to various other committments, this has not happened, nor can I see it happening at any point in the very near future. I am therefore reluctantly offering it for sale (again)! I have the logbook (V5C) in my name (which shows me as the registered keeper since June 2007 since the car was never exported). I also have all the rare and original parts in order to get this car back to how it should look. In terms of condition, the car has been part rebuilt. It has new front inner wings, A pillars, sills, footwells etc etc all done in the last few years. Forwards of the B pillar it is in very good condition. The doors are also passable (and repairable with care). It works on it`s original key (ignition and doors) which is a nice original feature, rather than having a large bunch of odd-ones, whic is so often the case. It has many other original features including the early dash (no wash wipe - although some auxillary switches have been fitted), very good lower fascia, early tailgate (no demister) frame not great... but these are easy to find. Not fitted, but available with the vehicle are - the early dash instrument `blanks`, - raised lettering front + rear, - early fuel filler, - original `palomino` plastic vacuum formed seats (the later fleetline vinyl ones seen in photo 1 will be removed) - very early rear end frame with the top indent to replace the current original rusty one (try and find another)!! - set of enough parts to make a pair of bonnet mirrors. (Judging by some recent eBay listings, the value of the above parts is probably worth more than the start price). I will also include a brand new rear cross member - the one fitted is fine, but if you are replacing the end frame it might as well have the cross member attached to it first! Condition of the bodyshell from the B pillars back is not so great. It looks solid enough, but is a typical patchwork of plate welds on the rear inner wings as per the photos. The chassis and axles are in great condition, as are the bulkhead, front footwells and outer birmabright panels. It had an MOT when it was put into storage in 2008, but this has long expired. It is currently SORN. Whilst in storage, the brakes have lost pressure and the choke has seized. It will start and drive - but doesn`t stop very well. Oil leak at rear crank case seal and probably numerous other short-comings as it was last on the road over two years ago. For the reasons set out above, I am listing it `for restoration`. Please do not bid unless you are aware what this means. Don`t expect to jump in it and drive it 3000 miles without incident - even on trade plates! It might make it, but I doubt it. Trailer or recovery only, please be sensible!!!! That said, with some relatively minor work it would probably repair and MOT (I`ve seen 2 doors in much worse condition than this in every day use). I have recently fitted a brand new battery, refurbished early rostyle wheels and have sourced good original Michelin X+MS tyres (as originally fitted in 1970). I have sourced many other rare early parts which will be included in the sale (the interior is currently `stripped out` ready for restoration, but it is all there and will go with the vehicle). 110 County Station Wagon, professionally converted to 300TDi power, finished in White with grey cloth trim This one is a sought-after genuine ‘County’ station wagon hence it comes with the higher level of interior trim, colour coded wheelarch eyebrows etc. Very nice specification – apart from the county trim level which gives a nicer interior (this one is in 6 seater configuration) , it has power steering, sunroof, factory steering guard, self-levelling rear suspension, sidesteps and rear step, matching set of Hankook Dynamic LT265/75R16 all-terrain tyres on 8-spoke wheels, chequerplate wingtops and modesty covers, snorkel (not connected), opening rear windows, front towball, mudflaps, and adjustable towpack with twin electrics. This one is a reasonably unusual find in that it has a massive history file. It appears to have had just one owner from new until 2001, who commissioned Gumtree Enterprises to replace the tired original engine with a 32000 mile 300TDi engine and R380 gearbox assembly in 2000. This engine will now have done around 100000 miles. We’ve also got old MOT’s back to 2006. It has a very long MOT to July 2011. Paintwork wise it’s reasonably original and hence never going to win any awards but but as always with these, blemishes just seem to add to it’s character and patina. On a fast 30-mile run on collection it performed very well indeed. Further detail: The body and paintwork on this one look reasonably straight for an older Landy with largely original paint save for both scuttle ends which have had repair sections put on, and 2 doors which according to the history have been replaced in the past. Being white it shows it`s age a little with electrolytic reaction and paint loss here and there. Obviously expect slightly wavy panels and minor imperfections etc - it`s still an older Landy after all that and blemishes give it character, but all I can really criticise is: door frame bottoms are past their best - especially the drivers door and tailgate where the skin around the lower hinge is starting to split. All door still shut fairly well though. Small dent to front of OSF wing, and slight dent to front of NSF wing, B/C post sections under lower hinges rusted, OSR door has largish shallow depression under barrelside. See the video below for a full appraisal of the bodywork Interior –quite nice and reasonably civilised for a Landy - correctly carpeted in the front (except the drivers footwell where it`s gone) , and all the correct station wagon trim in place on the roof etc. Correct seats in good shape. All I can criticise is a) the steering wheel is about 40 degrees off centre, the voltmeter isn`t working properly (earthed out?) by a Land Rover specialist who welded the chassis to a very high standard and I black waxoiled it as soon as I bought it in 2007. It had 4 days MOT when I got it and only required an indicator bulb to pass. I have just MOT`d it again and it only required the exhaust tail pipe fixing on and a new stop-light switch to pass after standing 2 years!Generally the bodywork is in good condition for its age and it had 5 new tyres just before I took possession. The swivel seals are still oil filled and do not leak. There is an oil leak from the transfer box somewhere. The front vents don`t open. The offside windscreen upright has some corrosion and there is a hole covered with tape on the inside of the upper driver’s door. These things can easily be sorted.Included is a box of assorted spares including a freewheel hub set that I never got around to fitting (including a new service kit from the manufacturer). The seats have new Land Rover covers.Viewing recommended.
